GBA : 32 Lakes Highly Polluted
Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao directed officials to take immediate action to improve the water quality of these lakes.
He was speaking at a meeting with officials regarding the K-100 stormwater drain (*Rajakaluve*), the 'Class-E' lakes, and road rejuvenation within the GBA limits.
The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), in its April 2026 report, noted that out of the 182 lakes owned by the city corporations, the water quality of 32 lakes falls under 'Class-E'. In this regard, he directed the corporation and Water Board (BWSSB) officials to jointly inspect the lakes within their respective corporation limits and take necessary remedial measures.
Key Directives and Major Issues
K-100 Stormwater Drain:** Sewage is entering the K-100 drain at 19 locations, and this must be completely stopped. On Mission Road, sewage from some houses is flowing directly into the drain. Officials must inspect and identify these houses, issue notices to the owners, and direct them to rectify the issue.
K-109 KS Garden Area:** An underground drainage (UGD) pipe passes through the stormwater drain area near KS Garden (K-109). During heavy rains, sewage overflows, causing problems. Therefore, this section needs to be remodelled to solve the issue.
Dyeing Units:** Colored water from dyeing units is discharging into K-100. To prevent this, officials must inspect the sites, formulate an appropriate plan, and submit a report. Additionally, the water quality along the K-100 route must be regularly tested and reported.
**Encroachment Removal:** Two buildings located over the stormwater drain near JC Road must be cleared. Central City Corporation officials have been directed to inspect the site and make necessary preparations to demolish these structures.

ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು: ಗ್ರೇಟರ್ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಪ್ರಾಧಿಕಾರದ (ಜಿಬಿಎ) ವ್ಯಾಪ್ತಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ 32 ಕೆರೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿನ ನೀರು ಅತಿ ಕಲುಷಿತವಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯ ನಿಯಂತ್ರಣ ಮಂಡಳಿಯ ವರದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ‘ಇ–ವರ್ಗ’ಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಿವೆ. ಇವುಗಳ ನೀರಿನ ಗುಣಮಟ್ಟ ಸುಧಾರಿಸಲು ಕ್ರಮ ಕೈಗೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ಮುಖ್ಯ ಆಯುಕ್ತ ಮಹೇಶ್ವರ್ ರಾವ್ ಸೂಚಿಸಿದರು.
ಜಿಬಿಎ ವ್ಯಾಪ್ತಿಯ ಕೆ-100 ರಾಜಕಾಲುವೆ, ‘ಇ’ ವರ್ಗಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಿರುವ ಕೆರೆಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ರಸ್ತೆ ಪುನಶ್ಚೇತನಕ್ಕೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದಂತೆ ನಡೆದ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳ ಸಭೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರು ಮಾತನಾಡಿದರು.
ನಗರ ಪಾಲಿಕೆಗಳ ಒಡೆತನದ 182 ಕೆರೆಗಳಿದ್ದು, ಅವುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ 32 ಕೆರೆಗಳ ನೀರಿನ ಗುಣಮಟ್ಟವು ‘ಇ’ ವರ್ಗಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯ ನಿಯಂತ್ರಣ ಮಂಡಳಿಯು ಏಪ್ರಿಲ್-2026ರಲ್ಲಿ ನೀಡಿರುವ ವರದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಉಲ್ಲೇಖಿಸಿದೆ. ಈ ಸಂಬಂಧ ಆಯಾ ನಗರ ಪಾಲಿಕೆಗಳ ವ್ಯಾಪ್ತಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಕೆರೆಗಳನ್ನು, ಪಾಲಿಕೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಜಲಮಂಡಳಿ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳು ಜಂಟಿಯಾಗಿ ಪರಿಶೀಲನೆ ನಡೆಸಿ, ಅಗತ್ಯ ಪರಿಹಾರ ಕ್ರಮಗಳನ್ನು ಕೈಗೊಳ್ಳುವಂತೆ ಸೂಚಿಸಿದರು.
ಕೆ-100 ರಾಜಕಾಲುವೆ ಮಾರ್ಗದಲ್ಲಿ 19 ಸ್ಥಳಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊಳಚೆ ನೀರು ಸೇರುತ್ತಿದ್ದು, ಅದನ್ನು ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿ ತಡೆಯಬೇಕಿದೆ. ಮಿಷನ್ ರಸ್ತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲವು ಮನೆಗಳಿಂದ ನೇರವಾಗಿ ರಾಜಕಾಲುವೆಗೆ ಕೊಳಚೆ ನೀರು ಹರಿಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದು, ಯಾವ ಮನೆಗಳಿಂದ ಕೊಳಚೆ ನೀರು ಬರುತ್ತಿದೆ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಪರಿಶೀಲಿಸಿ, ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದವರಿಗೆ ನೋಟಿಸ್ ನೀಡಿ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆ ಸರಿಪಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಸೂಚಿಸಬೇಕು. ಕೆ-109ರ ಕೆಎಸ್ ಗಾರ್ಡನ್ ಸಮೀಪ ರಾಜಕಾಲುವೆ ಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಳಚರಂಡಿ ಪೈಪ್ ಹಾದು ಹೋಗಿದ್ದು, ಭಾರಿ ಮಳೆಯ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಳಚರಂಡಿ ನೀರು ಉಕ್ಕಿ ಹರಿದು ಸಮಸ್ಯೆ ಉಂಟಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಆ ಭಾಗವನ್ನು ಮರು ವಿನ್ಯಾಸಗೊಳಿಸಿ(ರೀ-ಮಾಡೆಲಿಂಗ್) ಸಮಸ್ಯೆ ಪರಿಹರಿಸಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು.
ಡೈಯಿಂಗ್ ಯುನಿಟ್ಗಳಿಂದ ಬಣ್ಣ ಮಿಶ್ರಿತ ನೀರು ಕೆ-100ಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರುತ್ತಿದ್ದು, ಅದನ್ನು ತಡೆಯುವ ಸಲುವಾಗಿ ಸ್ಥಳ ಪರಿಶೀಲನೆ ನಡೆಸಿ ಸೂಕ್ತ ಯೋಜನೆ ರೂಪಿಸಿ ವರದಿ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಬೇಕು. ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಕೆ-100 ಮಾರ್ಗದಲ್ಲಿ ನೀರಿನ ಗುಣಮಟ್ಟವನ್ನು ನಿಯಮಿತವಾಗಿ ಪರಿಶೀಲಿಸಿ ವರದಿ ನೀಡಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ಸೂಚಿಸಿದರು.
ಜೆಸಿ ರಸ್ತೆ ಸಮೀಪ ರಾಜಕಾಲುವೆ ಮೇಲಿರುವ ಎರಡು ಕಟ್ಟಡಗಳನ್ನು ತೆರವುಗೊಳಿಸಬೇಕು. ಈ ಸಂಬಂಧ ಕೇಂದ್ರ ನಗರ ಪಾಲಿಕೆ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳು ಸ್ಥಳ ಪರಿಶೀಲನೆ ನಡೆಸಿ, ಕಟ್ಟಡಗಳನ್ನು ನೆಲಸಮಗೊಳಿಸಲು ಅಗತ್ಯ ಸಿದ್ಧತೆಗಳನ್ನು ಕೈಗೊಳ್ಳುವಂತೆ ಸೂಚಿಸಿದರು.
