₹1 Lakh Spent to Fill a Single Pothole

Bengaluru: In the Chamarajapet assembly constituency, ₹1 lakh has been spent to fill each pothole on the road. In contrast, in the Hebbal constituency, a single pothole was repaired at a cost of just ₹1,231.
Across the five municipal zones under the BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike), varying amounts have been spent to fix potholes. Surprisingly, in the Jayanagar and Padmanabhanagar constituencies, 565 and 664 potholes were repaired respectively without spending a single paisa.
Thousands of rupees have been spent differently across each assembly constituency and municipal zone to fill potholes. In the Dasarahalli constituency, which spans across two zones, ₹24,144 was spent per pothole in the West Zone, while only ₹1,985 was spent per pothole in the North Zone. In Padmanabhanagar, while the West Zone spent ₹22,123 per pothole, the South Zone repaired 664 potholes in the same constituency without incurring any expenditure.
These statistics were provided by Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar in the Legislative Assembly in response to an unstarred question by BJP’s Dr. C.N. Ashwath Narayan. This response was given on March 10, 2026. According to the information, over 39,000 potholes were filled within a six-month period at a total cost of ₹33.85 crore.
Citing this data at a press conference on Tuesday, Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka criticized the government, stating, "Even though lakhs have been spent to fill a single pothole, the potholes remain as they are."
"All the potholes that were supposedly filled are now open again. So, what did they actually fill? They must clarify if the ₹33 crore itself has disappeared into these potholes," he remarked.
He further added, "Let's go to the spots with the government's records of filled potholes; the reality will be clear. Because the potholes remain open, road accidents are occurring, and people are cursing the government."
"This government has shown how to make money even out of filling potholes. Therefore, if a House Committee consisting of Bengaluru MLAs is formed, we will provide an account of how bogus bills were created. They have pocketed money by making bogus bills everywhere," he alleged.

ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು: ಚಾಮರಾಜಪೇಟೆ ವಿಧಾನಸಭೆ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ರಸ್ತೆಯ ಪ್ರತಿ ಗುಂಡಿ ಮುಚ್ಚಲು ₹1 ಲಕ್ಷ ವೆಚ್ಚ ಮಾಡಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಆದರೆ, ಹೆಬ್ಬಾಳ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರ ವ್ಯಾಪ್ತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ₹1,231 ವೆಚ್ಚದಲ್ಲೇ ಗುಂಡಿಯೊಂದನ್ನು ದುರಸ್ತಿ ಮಾಡಲಾಗಿದೆ.
ಜಿಬಿಎ ವ್ಯಾಪ್ತಿಯ ಐದು ನಗರ ಪಾಲಿಕೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತಿ ಗುಂಡಿ ಮುಚ್ಚಲು ಒಂದೊಂದು ರೀತಿ ಹಣವನ್ನು ವೆಚ್ಚ ಮಾಡಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಆದರೆ, ಜಯನಗರ ಹಾಗೂ ಪದ್ಮನಾಭನಗರ ವಿಧಾನಸಭೆ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕ್ರಮವಾಗಿ 565 ಮತ್ತು 664 ಗುಂಡಿಗಳನ್ನು ದುರಸ್ತಿ ಮಾಡಲಾಗಿದ್ದರೂ ಒಂದು ಪೈಸೆಯೂ ವೆಚ್ಚವಾಗಿಲ್ಲ.
ಪ್ರತಿ ವಿಧಾನಸಭೆ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರ, ಪ್ರತಿ ನಗರ ಪಾಲಿಕೆಗಳ ರಸ್ತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಭಿನ್ನವಾಗಿ ರಸ್ತೆಯ ಪ್ರತಿ ಗುಂಡಿ ಮುಚ್ಚಲು ಸಾವಿರಾರು ರೂಪಾಯಿ ವೆಚ್ಚ ಮಾಡಲಾಗಿದೆ.
ದಾಸರಹಳ್ಳಿ ವಿಧಾನಸಭೆ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರ ಎರಡು ನಗರ ಪಾಲಿಕೆ ವ್ಯಾಪ್ತಿಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದು, ಪಶ್ಚಿಮ ನಗರ ಪಾಲಿಕೆ ವ್ಯಾಪ್ತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ರಸ್ತೆಯ ಪ್ರತಿ ಗುಂಡಿ ದುರಸ್ತಿಗೆ ₹24,144 ವೆಚ್ಚ ಮಾಡಲಾಗಿದ್ದರೆ, ಉತ್ತರ ನಗರ ಪಾಲಿಕೆ ವ್ಯಾಪ್ತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತಿ ಗುಂಡಿ ಮುಚ್ಚಲು ₹1,985 ವ್ಯಯ ಮಾಡಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಪದ್ಮನಾಭನಗರ ವಿಧಾನಸಭೆ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತಿ ಗುಂಡಿ ಮುಚ್ಚಲು ಪಶ್ಚಿಮ ನಗರ ಪಾಲಿಕೆ ₹22,123 ವೆಚ್ಚ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದರೆ, ಅದೇ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ನಗರ ಪಾಲಿಕೆ ಒಂದು ಪೈಸೆಯನ್ನೂ ವೆಚ್ಚ ಮಾಡದೆ 664 ಗುಂಡಿಗಳನ್ನು ದುರಸ್ತಿ ಮಾಡಿದೆ.
ಬಿಜೆಪಿಯ ಡಾ. ಸಿ.ಎನ್. ಅಶ್ವತ್ಥನಾರಾಯಣ ಅವರ ಚುಕ್ಕೆ ಗುರುತಿಲ್ಲದ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಗೆ ವಿಧಾನಸಭೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಉಪ ಮುಖ್ಯಮಂತ್ರಿ ಡಿ.ಕೆ. ಶಿವಕುಮಾರ್ ಅವರು ನೀಡಿರುವ ಉತ್ತರದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಅಂಕಿ–ಅಂಶ ನೀಡಲಾಗಿದೆ. 2026ರ ಮಾರ್ಚ್ 10ರಂದು ಈ ಉತ್ತರವನ್ನು ನೀಡಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಆರು ತಿಂಗಳ ಅವಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ 39 ಸಾವಿರಕ್ಕೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಗುಂಡಿಗಳನ್ನು ಮುಚ್ಚಲಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಅದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ₹33.85 ಕೋಟಿ ವೆಚ್ಚ ಮಾಡಲಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಮಾಹಿತಿ ನೀಡಲಾಗಿದೆ.
ಈ ಮಾಹಿತಿಯನ್ನು ಪತ್ರಿಕಾಗೋಷ್ಠಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಂಗಳವಾರ ಉಲ್ಲೇಖಿಸಿದ, ವಿರೋಧ ಪಕ್ಷದ ನಾಯಕ ಆರ್. ಅಶೋಕ ಅವರು, ‘ಒಂದೊಂದು ಗುಂಡಿ ಮುಚ್ಚಲು ಲಕ್ಷಗಟ್ಟಲೆ ಖರ್ಚು ಮಾಡಿದ್ದರೂ, ಗುಂಡಿಗಳು ಮಾತ್ರ ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಉಳಿದಿವೆ’ ಎಂದು ಟೀಕಿಸಿದರು.
‘ಮುಚ್ಚಿದ ಗುಂಡಿಗಳೆಲ್ಲವೂ ಈಗ ತೆರೆದುಕೊಂಡಿವೆ. ಹಾಗಿದ್ದರೆ ಇವರು ಮುಚ್ಚಿದ್ದೇನು? ₹33 ಕೋಟಿ ಗುಂಡಿಯಲ್ಲೇ ಮುಚ್ಚಿ ಹೋಗಿದೆಯೇ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ತಿಳಿಸಬೇಕು’ ಎಂದರು.
‘ಸರ್ಕಾರದವರು ಗುಂಡಿ ಮುಚ್ಚಿರುವುದರ ಸಂಬಂಧ ಇರುವ ದಾಖಲೆಗಳನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಸ್ಥಳಕ್ಕೇ ಹೋಗೋಣ, ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಏನಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂಬುದು ಗೊತ್ತಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಗುಂಡಿಗಳು ತೆರೆದೇ ಇರುವುದರಿಂದ ರಸ್ತೆ ಅಪಘಾತಗಳು ಸಂಭವಿಸುತ್ತಿವೆ. ಜನ ಸರ್ಕಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಶಾಪ ಹಾಕುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ’ ಎಂದು ಅವರು ಹೇಳಿದರು.
‘ಗುಂಡಿ ಮುಚ್ಚುವುದರಲ್ಲೂ ಹಣ ಮಾಡುವುದು ಹೇಗೆ ಎಂದು ಈ ಸರ್ಕಾರ ತೋರಿಸಿಕೊಟ್ಟಿದೆ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ, ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಶಾಸಕರನ್ನು ಒಳಗೊಂಡ ಸದನ ಸಮಿತಿ ರಚಿಸಿದರೆ ಹೇಗೆ ಬೋಗಸ್ ಬಿಲ್ ಮಾಡಲಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂಬುದಕ್ಕೆ ಲೆಕ್ಕ ಕೊಡುತ್ತೇವೆ. ಎಲ್ಲ ಕಡೆಯೂ ಬೋಗಸ್ ಬಿಲ್ ಮಾಡಿ ಹಣ ಹೊಡೆದಿದ್ದಾರೆ’ ಎಂದು ದೂರಿದರು.
