Air pollution drops sharply after Covid; No Control over noise pollution

Bengaluru: For the first time since Covid, air pollution in the city has dropped to a record low during Deepavali.

In 2020, which was hit by the pandemic Covid, air pollution decreased by 30.34% during Deepavali compared to the previous year. In 2025, compared to 2024, air pollution (Air Quality Index – AQI) decreased by 44%.

There were seven measurement stations in 2019 and 2020. Currently, the State Pollution Control Board has AQI measurement stations at 11 locations in the city. As per this data, the lowest (–179%) air pollution was recorded in Hebbal this time compared to last year's Diwali. Out of the 11 measurement stations, only Saneguruvanahalli saw a 2% increase in air pollution.

No reduction in noise pollution:

Although air pollution has reduced to record levels, noise pollution has not decreased during Diwali. The State Pollution Control Board has 14 measurement stations under the jurisdiction of the ‘Bengaluru Senior Environmental Officer’, out of which noise pollution has decreased only in Anekal, Nelamangala, and Doddaballapur.

The highest noise pollution was recorded in Hosakote, while noise pollution increased in Dasarahalli, Peenya, AECS Layout, Kundalahalli, Whitefield, and Yelahanka RTO office areas during Diwali.

Deepavali: Air pollution reduced by 29% in Karnataka

Bengaluru: The average air pollution during the three days of Diwali this year was 29% lower than the three days of Deepavali last year, and 12% lower than normal days.

Air pollution decreased by 35% on the first day of Deepavali, 27% on the second day, and 27% on the third day. The air pollution (Air Quality Index – AQI) recorded during Deepavali this year was lower than the air pollution recorded during the three days of Deepavali last year and on normal days.

The average AQI recorded at the measuring stations of the State Pollution Control Board on the Monday before Deepavali was 13th October. On the first day of Diwali, 53 AQI was recorded, on the second day 55 AQI, and on the third day 60 AQI, air pollution was lower than normal. Last year's three-day AQI of Deepavali was 73 on average. This time, 56 AQI was recorded.

Highest: 

Bidar recorded the highest air pollution, an increase of 38 percent over the previous year. Air pollution increased in Belgaum, Bagalkot, Kodagu, and Kalaburagi-1. 

Lowest: 

This time, the air pollution of Diwali in Davangere has decreased by a record amount (123 percent). Air pollution has also decreased in Mysore and Uttara Kannada.

The Pollution Control Board said that air pollution data was not maintained in Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Hassan, Raichur, Koppal, Udupi, and Tumkur.

Noise pollution is high everywhere

 Noise pollution has increased even in cities/districts where air pollution levels have decreased during Deepavali. Compared to last Deepavali, noise pollution has increased in the three days of this year's Deepavali at 29 measurement stations of the State Pollution Control Board.

76.18 decibels (+28%) in Belgaum, 75.26 decibels (+23%) in Hassan, 53.78 decibels (+23%) in Chikkaballapur, 77.86 decibels (+22%) in Chikkamagaluru, 67.26 decibels (+21%) in Chitradurga, 67.19 decibels (+19%) in Mandya, these city/district centers are in the top five in noise pollution.

ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು: ಕೋವಿಡ್‌ ನಂತರದ ಮೊದಲ ಬಾರಿಗೆ ದೀಪಾವಳಿ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಯು ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯ ನಗರದಲ್ಲಿ ದಾಖಲೆ ಪ್ರಮಾಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಇಳಿಕೆಯಾಗಿದೆ.

ಸಾಂಕ್ರಾಮಿಕ ರೋಗ ಕೋವಿಡ್‌ ಬಾಧಿಸಿದ್ದ 2020ರಲ್ಲಿ ಅದರ ಹಿಂದಿನ ವರ್ಷಕ್ಕಿಂತ ದೀಪಾವಳಿ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಶೇ 30.34ರಷ್ಟು ವಾಯು ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯ ಕಡಿಮೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದು. 2025ರಲ್ಲಿ  2024ಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಲಿಸಿದರೆ ವಾಯು ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯ (ವಾಯು ಗುಣಮಟ್ಟ ಇಂಡೆಕ್ಸ್‌– ಎಕ್ಯೂಐ) ಶೇ 44ರಷ್ಟು ಇಳಿಕೆಯಾಗಿದೆ.

2019 ಮತ್ತು 2020ರಲ್ಲಿ ಏಳು ಮಾಪನ ಕೇಂದ್ರಗಳಿದ್ದವು. ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ, ರಾಜ್ಯ ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯ ನಿಯಂತ್ರಣ ಮಂಡಳಿ ನಗರದ 11 ಸ್ಥಳಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಎಕ್ಯೂಐ ಮಾಪನ ಕೇಂದ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದೆ. ಈ ದತ್ತಾಂಶದಂತೆ, ಕಳೆದ ವರ್ಷದ ದೀಪಾವಳಿ ಸಂದರ್ಭಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಈ ಬಾರಿ ಹೆಬ್ಬಾಳದಲ್ಲಿ ಅತಿಕಡಿಮೆ (–179%) ವಾಯು ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯ ದಾಖಲಾಗಿದೆ. 11 ಮಾಪನ ಕೇಂದ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಣೆಗುರುವನಹಳ್ಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತ್ರ ಶೇ 2ರಷ್ಟು ವಾಯು ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯ ವೃದ್ಧಿಯಾಗಿದೆ.

ಶಬ್ದ ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯಕ್ಕಿಲ್ಲ ಅಂಕುಶ: 

ವಾಯು ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯ ದಾಖಲೆ ಪ್ರಮಾಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಡಿಮೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದರೂ, ದೀಪಾವಳಿ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಶಬ್ದ ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಇಳಿಕೆಯಾಗಿಲ್ಲ.  ‘ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಹಿರಿಯ ಪರಿಸರ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿ’ ವ್ಯಾಪ್ತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ 14 ಮಾಪನ ಕೇಂದ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ರಾಜ್ಯ ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯ ನಿಯಂತ್ರಣ ಮಂಡಳಿ ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದು, ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ಆನೇಕಲ್‌, ನೆಲಮಂಗಲ, ದೊಡ್ಡಬಳ್ಳಾಪುರದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತ್ರ ಶಬ್ದ ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯ ಕಡಿಮೆಯಾಗಿದೆ.

ಹೊಡಕೋಟೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅತಿಹೆಚ್ಚು ಶಬ್ದ ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯ ದಾಖಲಾಗಿದ್ದು, ದಾಸರಹಳ್ಳಿ, ಪೀಣ್ಯ, ಎಇಸಿಎಸ್‌ ಲೇಔಟ್‌, ಕುಂದಲಹಳ್ಳಿ, ವೈಟ್‌ಫೀಲ್ಡ್, ಯಲಹಂಕ ಆರ್‌ಟಿಒ ಕಚೇರಿ ಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಶಬ್ದ ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯ ದೀಪಾವಳಿ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಿದೆ.

ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು: ರಾಜ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಳೆದ ವರ್ಷದ ದೀಪಾವಳಿಯ ಮೂರು ದಿನಗಳಿಗಿಂತ ಈ ವರ್ಷದ ದೀಪಾವಳಿಯ ಮೂರು ದಿನದ ವಾಯು ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯ ಸರಾಸರಿ ಶೇ 29ರಷ್ಟು ಕಡಿಮೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದರೆ, ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ದಿನಗಳಿಗೆ ಹೋಲಿಸಿದರೆ ಶೇ 12ರಷ್ಟು ಇಳಿಕೆಯಾಗಿದೆ.

ದೀಪಾವಳಿಯ ಮೊದಲ ದಿನ ಶೇ 35ರಷ್ಟು, ಎರಡನೇ ದಿನ ಶೇ 27ರಷ್ಟು, ಮೂರನೇ ದಿನ ಶೇ 27ರಷ್ಟು ವಾಯು ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯ ಕಡಿಮೆಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಕಳೆದ ವರ್ಷದ ದೀಪಾವಳಿಯ ಮೂರು ದಿನ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ದಾಖಲಾಗುವ ವಾಯು ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಕಡಿಮೆ ಪ್ರಮಾಣ (ವಾಯು ಗುಣಮಟ್ಟ ಇಂಡೆಕ್ಸ್‌– ಎಕ್ಯೂಐ) ಈ ವರ್ಷದ ದೀಪಾವಳಿ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ದಾಖಲಾಗಿದೆ.

ರಾಜ್ಯ ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯ ನಿಯಂತ್ರಣ ಮಂಡಳಿಯ ಮಾಪನ ಕೇಂದ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ದೀಪಾವಳಿಯ ಹಿಂದಿನ ಸೋಮವಾರ ಅ.13ರಂದು ಸರಾಸರಿ 63 ಎಕ್ಯೂಐ ದಾಖಲಾಗಿತ್ತು. ದೀಪಾವಳಿಯ ಮೊದಲ ದಿನ 53 ಎಕ್ಯೂಐ, ಎರಡನೇ ದಿನ 55 ಎಕ್ಯೂಐ, ಮೂರನೇ ದಿನ 60 ಎಕ್ಯೂಐ ದಾಖಲಾಗಿ, ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ದಿನಕ್ಕಿಂತಲೂ ಕಡಿಮೆ ವಾಯು ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯ ದಾಖಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಕಳೆದ ವರ್ಷದ ದೀಪಾವಳಿಯ ಮೂರು ದಿನ ಎಕ್ಯೂಐ ಸರಾಸರಿ 73 ಆಗಿತ್ತು. ಈ ಬಾರಿ 56 ಎಕ್ಯೂಐ ದಾಖಲಾಗಿದೆ.

ಅತಿಹೆಚ್ಚು: ಬೀದರ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಅತಿಹೆಚ್ಚು ವಾಯು ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯ ದಾಖಲಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಕಳೆದ ವರ್ಷಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಶೇ 38ರಷ್ಟು ವೃದ್ಧಿಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಬೆಳಗಾವಿ, ಬಾಗಲಕೋಟೆ, ಕೊಡಗು, ಕಲಬುರಗಿ–1ರಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಯು ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯ ಹೆಚ್ಚಳವಾಗಿದೆ. 

ಅತಿ ಕಡಿಮೆ: ದಾವಣಗೆರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಬಾರಿ ದೀಪಾವಳಿಯ ವಾಯು ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯ ದಾಖಲೆ ಪ್ರಮಾಣದಲ್ಲಿ (ಶೇ 123) ಕಡಿಮೆಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಮೈಸೂರು, ಉತ್ತರ ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲೂ ವಾಯು ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯ ಇಳಿಕೆಯಾಗಿದೆ.

ಕೋಲಾರ, ಚಿಕ್ಕಬಳ್ಳಾಪುರ, ಹಾಸನ, ರಾಯಚೂರು, ಕೊಪ್ಪಳ, ಉಡುಪಿ, ತುಮಕೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಯು ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯ ದತ್ತಾಂಶ ನಿರ್ವಹಣೆ ಮಾಡಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯ ನಿಯಂತ್ರಣ  ಮಂಡಳಿ ತಿಳಿಸಿದೆ.

ಶಬ್ದ ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯ ಎಲ್ಲೆಡೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚು: 

ದೀಪಾವಳಿ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಯು ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯದ ಪ್ರಮಾಣ ಕಡಿಮೆಯಾಗಿರುವ ನಗರ/ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಗಳಲ್ಲೂ ಶಬ್ದ ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯ ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಿದೆ. ಕಳೆದ ದೀಪಾವಳಿಗೆ ಹೋಲಿಸಿದರೆ ಈ ವರ್ಷದ ದೀಪಾವಳಿಯ ಮೂರು ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಶಬ್ದ ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯ ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಿರುವುದು ರಾಜ್ಯ ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯ ನಿಯಂತ್ರಣ ಮಂಡಳಿಯ 29 ಮಾಪನ ಕೇಂದ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ದಾಖಲಾಗಿದೆ.
