 SEVEN DAYS deadline for CLEANING the VACANT SITE

 BENGALURU: BBMP has issued an order to levy eviction fee and penalty after giving a seven-day deadline for cleaning vacant plots in the city.

 A notice will be given to the owners to clear the waste and plants from the vacant plots.  Later, Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath has issued an order to carry out the eviction operation on behalf of the corporation and to collect the cost and penalty in the owner's property tax.

 A new order has been issued under the Solid Waste Management Rules-2016, Solid Waste Management Bye-law 2020 and BBMP Act 2020 for collection of fines and disposal charges as part of property tax from owners for disposal of waste from vacant plots.

 Following are the steps to be taken by the zonal authorities as per the order:

 *Vacant sites and areas where solid waste/building and debris (C & D) waste is dumped should be listed.  Unpleasant or unsanitary conditions, public places with noxious vegetation, trees or shrubs or places causing nuisance to neighbors should be identified.

 * Violation of specific rules shall be penalized as per Schedule-7 of Solid Waste Management By-law.

 *Notice to be given with a specified period of seven days to remove or clear the waste in the vacant site.

 *If the person/owner fails to comply with the directions, then the premises shall be vacated by the corporation.  The cost and penalty thereof shall be entered in a separate table in the notice of property tax within seven days.

 *Penalties and costs should be entered in the property tax books.  Arrears should be collected along with collection of property tax.

 * In case of failure to pay within the stipulated period, Zonal Commissioner shall also levy applicable interest
